The Epic Story of America:
INDEPENDENCE
1780-1783

It's not over yet! We still have a trilogy to finish!

1776 was just the beginning. And so was 1777.

2024 was the time of rest. It's time we bring it home in 2025.

We are thrilled to announce the return of Virtual Epic Patriot Camp in 2025! â€‹In this grand finale, campers will be lead by authors and past campers Gemma Cox and Christopher J. Watt through the EXCLUSIVE 6-week online writing course focussed on writing the story of the final years in the American Revolution.

It truly has been an incredible journey with Virtual Epic Patriot Camp under the amazing leadership of Jenny L. Cote and Libby McNamee in 2022 and 2023. But now it's our turn to lead the valiant charge and produce the final novel ourselves! Christopher and Gemma are confident that campers of Epic Patriot Camp 2025: INDEPENDENCE will create an outstanding masterpiece of a novel that will be celebrated in years to come, honouring the legacy that Jenny and Libby started. And who knows, maybe we might all surprise ourselves by creating a bestseller! (But let's not get too far ahead, let's settle on finishing the trilogy first.)

Meet Gemma

Gemma Cox Ella Quill.png

Gemma ("Ella Quill") uses her pen for the glory of God. When she and her pet rabbit aren’t coming up with the next book idea, she loves to sing songs, eat chocolate, and read good books.

Meet Christopher

Gemma Cox Ella Quill.png

Christopher loves to write compelling stories set in elaborate worlds. But don't let that fool you - as an avid history buff, a good nonfiction book or biography can't go wrong in his hands. When he's not writing, he's either eating something, spending time with friends and Shadow his black Lab, or swimming in his squad.

Pre-Camp FAQ about INDEPENDENCE:

Before emailing Jenny or Christopher with questions, please check if it has already been answered here. We are very busy and we cannot afford to take too much time answering questions that have already been asked! We will add and update the questions once registrations have opened.

What are we going to do this time?

The same as last time! Writing book 3 in The Epic Story of America, covering the years 1780 through 1783. The only thing that will be different is that Jenny and Libby will not be hosting in any way! This will be done independently by us.

Who will be running the camp?

Christopher (J.) Watt and Gemma Cox ("Ella Quill")! If you don't recognise them, they were both past campers in 2022 and 2023. Christopher wrote Dr. Benjamin Franklin, and Gemma wrote General William Howe for 1776 and Benedict Arnold for 1777-79. Gemma is also the author of Tales from Bethlehem; a sweet Nativity novella published in December 2023!

Can I still contact Jenny and Libby if I have any questions?

The short answer is NO. Jenny L. Cote and Libby McNamee are not going to be involved in running this camp at all. Instead, your contact people will be Christopher and Gemma. This is a time for us campers to take the lead on writing this new installment! Please DO NOT contact Jenny and Libby, unless it is something very serious that neither Christopher nor Gemma can resolve.

How many chapters am I writing this year?

You will be writing ONE chapter, like what we did for 1777-79. This allows you to work on a clearer plot line, and to spend more time on developing one strong story. (and it makes it easier for us to edit!)

Do I get to have the same character as last time?

That depends on the significance of your character in 1780-83. Some characters might be removed, and others will be added. Others (like Benjamin Franklin and George Washington) will remain. You will be given the option to stick with your old character, or to be open for a new one, when camp registrations open.

When can I begin my research and outlining?

As soon as you know your character! In fact, we HIGHLY encourage you to do research and planning before camp begins, as it will give you more time to figure things out at a slower pace. Camp is going to be quite intensive and it will go fast!

Where—and when—do I register for Camp?

We are still building our plans and gathering interest for camp, but registrations are probably going to be open from sometime in January until the beginning of February. Don’t worry, if you were a published camper in either 2022 or 2023, we’ll make sure you get the email when we’re ready!
